The best environmental Literature for Kids serves to promote stewardship, wonder and understanding of the natural world, and awareness of environmental issues. It exists wherever human beings write about the physical places where they live, about the other species with whom they share planet Earth, and about the increasingly pressing questions of limited natural resources, and toxic pollution

If you are reading this, you already are interested in teaching kids to become wise stewards of the natural environment. How to succeed in way that not only provides kids with a sound, scientific knowledge base, but also heightens their life-long appreciation for the awesome power and beauty of nature on which our wellbeing depends?

My suggested “recipe” for achieving these lofty and vital goals consists of the following ingredients:

1) Field trips into the woods and fields, along streams and seashores, up hills and mountains to experience the natural environment—both floral and fauna—first hand.

2) Teaching in the classroom to ensure that students understand and absorb scientific facts from related sciences so that can make informed, wise decisions.

3) Reading kids literature with environmental themes to spur imagination and creativity. There are several excellent web sites that list good books on a range of related topics. Here are a few:
